Deliver us from evil: The sore of idolatry in the second age of Trump

Only by God's mercy will President Donald Trump be saved. He has stepped all over the Ten Commandments. The fifth emphasizes respecting one's parents. The seventh on committing adultery, and the ninth, bearing false witness against your neighbor.

However, the tenth commandment is the most descriptive of Trump: “You will not covet.” Possessions mean everything to him. He yearns for all worldly possessions.

The current president's policies and actions have received mixed reactions from the public as it concerns their impact on the people and the environment. He only cares about himself, and all the riches he can acquire in his lifetime.

Trump has everyone around him living in fear of him. He has become like a god to them. The situation is driven primarily by greed and the loss of their own wealth. Material things they can’t take with them.

In contrast, a well-lived life is like simplifying a complex equation. When you embrace its immense possibilities, love, family, friends, and good health are the most important things life has to offer.

Trump may not be aware that he is operating on a predefined timeline. This schedule is not within his control; only a higher power has knowledge of the specific day or hour of his departure. We are all here in this life journey on God’s schedule.

Yet we see the most powerful man in the world, the president of the United States, so mentally unfit and no one seems to care. It is a sin against God, because he has become to many a false god. The second commandment states: "You will not make idols."

How can the MAGA Republicans ignore God or his teachings, when so many of them are Evangelicals and Catholics? Many consider themselves born-again Christians who care for and support one another. But if you have a unfit president and continue to ignore this at the expense of the nation, who are you really?

Who are the people that would crucify a Black man who served in the same capacity as president, and not so long ago? People who now allow a White, unstable man to remain in office despite all the things being taken away from those in need—including Social Security, Medicaid, and food all over the world.

This is not a simple question, nor a personal one. Many people share the sentiment, regardless of skin color. This is a wake-up call to America and a prayer to God, an all-merciful God, to help us in our time of need, to grant new leadership and a renewed America.
